World demand on average has increased about 1 to 2% per year. Meanwhile, the dollar has lost over half of it’s value in the the same amount of time. In 2002, oil was at ~25 bucks per barrel and ~25 euros per barrel. Now, it is at ~140 bucks per barrel and ~70 euros per barrel.
Yes, I believe that supply/demand have a LITTLE to do with increases (maybe 10%), but the vast majority of the increase is do to the devaluation of the dollar. I have no idea why more people, including the media, do not get this.
I also believe that oil futures trading has also contributed significantly to the increase in the price of oil….but this is done by private companies. you can’t blame them for recommending a stock or commodity and buying the stock or commodity.

an. 29 (Bloom berg) — Canada’s dollar weakened against the greenback after worst-than-forecast economic data in the U.S. revived global aversion to higher-yielding assets.

“We’re seeing a little bit of pessimism across asset classes,” said Dustin Reid, director of currency strategy at RBS Greenwich Capital Markets in Chicago. “We’ve got this horrible data out of the U.S. The market has gone back to trading this risk aversion equals stronger U.S. dollar theme.”

The Canadian dollar depreciated 1.1 percent to C$1.2240 per U.S. dollar at 4:37 p.m. in Toronto, from C$1.2109 yesterday. One Canadian dollar buys 81.69 U.S. cents.

The Canadian currency will weaken to C$1.25 against the U.S. dollar by the end of this quarter before rebounding to C$1.20 by the end of 2009, according to the median forecast in a Bloomberg News survey of 42 economists. Reid has a near-term trading recommendation of C$1.25.

Canada’s currency is down 0.4 percent this month, after appreciating 1.7 percent in December. The loonie, as the currency is known, had its worst performance on record last year, weakening 18 percent, amid a recession in the U.S., the destination for about three-quarters of Canada’s exports.

Sales of new homes in the U.S. fell to an annual pace of 331,000 in December, lower than all 70 forecasts in a Bloomberg News survey. Other reports today said orders for durable goods slumped for a fifth month and a record number of Americans were collecting jobless benefits.

Crude oil for March delivery dropped 1.4 percent to $41.59 a barrel. Crude accounts for about a tenth of Canada’s export revenue and makes up 21 percent of the Bank of Canada Commodity Price Index, the largest component.

‘Softer Commodities’

“Softer equity and commodity valuations” will likely continue to weigh on Canada’s dollar,” said Jack Spitz, managing director of foreign exchange at National Bank of Canada in Toronto.

Fourth-quarter reports are due tomorrow on the gross domestic economies of both Canada and the U.S.

“Markets are definitely waiting for the U.S. GDP numbers tomorrow, as a major signpost of where things are going,” said Reid. “It’s possible we could be at a significant watershed event tomorrow.”

The yield on the two-year government bond rose 3 basis points to 1.40 percent. The price of the 2.75 percent security due in December 2010 fell 7 cents to C$102.43. Its a miracle Please leave your comments Bush really did a number on Federal Deficit! ugh sighs”"”

How Can Any Common American Vote Republican?

Ophiuchus asked:

This Whole Campaign Reminds me of the Movie Trading Places.Think of both party’s this way.

Mortimer (Republicans) and Randolph (Democrats) Duke are commodity brokers who enjoy a little wager now and then. The fabulously wealthy but morally bankrupt Duke brothers make a one-dollar bet over heredity (Republicans) vs. environment (Democrats).

How can anyone that comes from privileged backgrounds care for any common person? There are more common people in America than privileged. Watching the RNC I didn’t see anyone the average american could relate to as opposed to the DNC.

The Republicans are playing with our lives!

The Privileged Republicans are out of touch with us (Just like Mortimer) who are living day to day. They (Duke brothers) are not effected by the economy in ways that common families are. So they can’t feel the same level of concerns for every day progress!

McCain’s choice of Palin is the Republicans $1 bet that America is so superficial all it takes is an Pretty inexperienced Woman to distract us from a minimum experienced Black man. The reason Barack has minimum experience is because he’s a fast learner and moves up quickly he’s that good. He’ll make mistakes and learn fast. McCain is old and set in his ways (Just like Mortimer) and will be just as stubborn as Bush. How does that help us?
Cold Hard Fact: Some of my comparisons to the movie were taken too literal but I like the way you present your argument.

A European colony was in Africa. The colonized this because of the spice trade. They wanted to lock into that precious commodity. In the 19th century, spices were worth more than gold. The goals of 19th and 20th century Imperialism were very often related to the European belief that Europeans were both racially and morally superior to others, particularly Africans. Europeans invaded Africa with the purpose of instilling Christianity into natives as well as introducing western ideas in education, medicine, hygiene, and monogamous marriage. The colonization of Africa was also of commercial interest (which was greatly expanded due to the Industrial Revolution during this time period). Africa provided European manufacturers with cheap labor, raw materials, and a ready market to purchase their products.

how could i make it better?
thanks :D

Ghana’s `Forgotten’ Stock Market Beats World Equities (Update1)

By Janice Kew and Emily Bowers

Oct. 30 (Bloomberg) — Vendors hawking handbags and fruit along downtown Accra’s Liberia Road are busier than the traders five stories upstairs on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

An offshore-oil discovery, rising commodity prices and government spending on roads and other projects drove the market to a 63 percent gain this year, making it the world’s best- performing bourse.

Then volume on the market fell to 23,875 shares daily over the last four weeks, a 20th of the average for the past six months. This left investors unable to flee even as stocks in nearby Nigeria declined 44 percent since March 5. On some days, almost no shares have changed hands in the Cedi House Building.

“It’s hard to call it a stock market because of the liquidity levels,” said Don Elefson, an emerging-markets specialist at Harding Loevner Management in Somerville, New Jersey. “Ghana’s a little market that gets forgotten.”

The path of Ghana’s All-Share Index diverged from the Merrill Lynch African Lions Index on March 5, climbing 54 percent as the broader measure of bourses started a 60 percent plunge.

“Ghana missed out on the initial Africa bull run and is now playing catch-up,” said Cape Town-based Roelof Horne, who helps manage $1 billion in Investec’s Africa Fund and Pan-Africa Fund.

Stock-market development in the country of 22.5 million, sandwiched between Togo and Ivory Coast, has trailed neighbors such as Nigeria. The Lagos exchange has 219 listed companies and a valuation of about 10 trillion naira ($80 billion) as of September, compared with Accra’s 34 listed companies worth 18.1 billion cedis ($15.5 billion).

Ghana’s All-Share Index today lost 0.1 percent to 10,788.29, while Nigeria’s benchmark tumbled 3.5 percent.

Electronic Trading

Unlike Nigeria, Ghana doesn’t have electronic trading, according to the market’s Web site. Traders scribble bid and asking prices on whiteboards. That’s forecast to change before the end of the year, according to the exchange’s general manager, Ekow Afedzie.

Commodity Trading Course

Commodity Trading Course Information.

skahhh asked:

Today, if you are affluent enough, you can trade on many platforms and commodities especially and drive up the price of necessary commodities in real time form, so that your fellow lower middle class citizenry can eventually starve, especially when jobs are dwindling due to automation and outsourcing and the bidding down of labor’s worth.

So that these bidding processes, up for commodities…raw materials, dollar down, and down for labor costs, are placing the lower middle class citizen in jeopardy, eventually into homeless shelters for not being able to afford their food and energy needs in their own homes.
