A question asked by la-la-la-laaa: How to file taxes when trading commodities?
For three months in ’09, I traded commodities and had a year-end loss of $ 900. I know I use form 6781 and schedule D, but I’m not sure how to fill them out. My 1099-b only shows the P/L for each individual month and for the entire year. I heard that commodities traders don’t have to list each trade, is this true? And if so, then how do I list the activity?
How do I transfer this information to state? I live in AZ.

You should be able to group the entries. The tax program should just transfer the information to the state return.

Canada does not have a central regulatory authority. Each province regulates the securities and commodities businesses. Ontario, naturally, has the largest regulator.

Looking at Ontario, it appears that there is a special registration for those who are currently members of the NFA and registered with the CFTC. I attach the links.

A question asked by Elljay: What time does the FDAX futures market open in CET?
I’m using Ninja-trader to trade futures and I can see charts for FDAX 12-10 Eurex. I was wondering what times CET it opens and closes.

Any help much appreciated.

At current point in time there is very little independence in the DAX. It might be interesting to look at intraday trades during the morning session, before the US futures kick-in. Anyway, I’m not an intraday trader. For me it appears as if the DAX is more trend persistent, so playing trend following strategies are the better choice.
