hi. if the cap and trade legislation passes and becomes law, won’t this create a new market for speculators with no interest in carbon credits other than as a commodity to buy and sale for profit? if so, couldnt that defeat the intended purpose of carbon credits? thanks! jim

Cap and Trade like many Federal mandates is nothing more than legalized extortion of the tax payer .
Exactly. It’s the best scam ever… invent a fictitious commodity, lobby to get it regulated, then make a mint buying & selling it.
And FYI, they are now using the term “Pollution Vouchers”
And of course enviro-superstar Al Gore is set to make BIG money on it.
It’s a bad idea period. But Liberals are packed with them, so go figure.
Just another way to take America down the tubes to be a third rate country!
What can I say that hasn’t already been said about this scam?
Cap and trade is just another political tool for government to rip more money from the pockets of taxpayers. If it cannot get it from income tax, it will get it from your electric bill. And yes, the existence of such a market will open the doors wide to speculation, and will spawn a whole new trading industry which likewise is financed on the backs of the people.
The whole notion of a “carbon footprint” is an abstract example of a non-existent entity which allows government to collect huge new fees for providing no service whatsoever.
This and all such similar government schemes should be blocked at all costs.
cap and trade is a scam
Most of that is already owned by politicians.
I may also add that the poor will lose because of it. The electric bills will go up, gas and oil prices will go up and the poor won’t be able to pay for it.
