Do You Think the Republicans Lost Because of Very POOR Clinton Policies?
1. Community Reinvestment Act- 1995 Clinton
2. North American Free Trade Agreement- 1993 Clinton
3. Commidity Futures Modernization Act- 2000 Clinton
4. Repealed the Glass-Steagall Act- Clinton
President Clinton’s tenure was characterized by economic prosperity and financial deregulation, which in many ways set the stage for the excesses of recent years. Among his biggest strokes of free-wheeling capitalism was the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, a cornerstone of Depression-era regulation. He also signed the Commodity Futures Modernization Act, which exempted credit-default swaps from regulation. In 1995 Clinton loosened housing rules by rewriting the Community Reinvestment Act, which put added pressure on banks to lend in low-income neighborhoods. It is the subject of heated political and scholarly debate whether any of these moves are to blame for our troubles.
Dave- Not 1 year did the republicans controll the house and senate at the same time. (under Bush) House has been under the controll of the Democrats his whole time as president.

Clinton, The Bush’s and Obama are controlled by the same people. They all support the same policies under different party names.
No Bush policies
Republicans….Rest In Peace…
No.
I think they lost because a lot of people weren’t necessarily voting for Obama. But voting against the possibility of Sarah Palin.
If Clinton was so bad, why didnt the republicans straighten this country out in the 6 years they controlled the House, the Senate, the presidency and the Supreme Court
????????????
After 8 years of the greatest economic growth in American history, GW and his ilk ruined our economy.
That’s why they failed.
I think the Republicans lost because McCain ran a terrible campaign. I voted for him…I’m a lifelong Republican, but I was not a happy camper during the entire campaign. Ya gotta fight, and McCain just sat back and absolutely ignored all of the negatives about Obama, and let’s face it….there were MANY negatives. Was McCain crazy thinking he would automatically win or what? I just couldn’t figure it out.
yes, clinton’s policies had a direct bearing on the current banking mess.
However, i would argue that at least as important to the destruction of the American economy is the fact that we handed over to china half of our economy. People wonder why our economy and jobs and savings are so horrible, it’s very simple, China took all of our manufacturing jobs.
Clinton let that happen with signing of the Most Favored Nations status for China, but this was planned by forces much bigger than Clinton and indeed the U.S. The global government is hell-bent on decimating the middle classes of the rich world, particularly America.
The next policy that will finish destroying our economy is this global warming hoax and the carbon tax. And this of course will come from Clinton’s butt-boy al gore.
I think Republicans lost because they intended to lose. They KNEW what was coming. They KNEW the worst economic depression in U.S. history loomed [which I believe will strike by October, 2009]. They KNEW they had squandered trillions of dollars on an illegal, immoral, unconstitutional war. They KNEW there was very little support for an incompetent, unpopular President and his party. Better they ‘sit this one out’, let the Democrats win by a landslide, blame Democrats for the depression, then come back strong in 2012 [or 2016, depending on how well Obama's strategies work] to continue their war-mongering, reckless spending and ‘wink-wink’ tolerance of ‘big business’ shenanigans.
You saw a very mediocre attempt on the part of Republicans to win because that was the PLAN. -RKO- 03/28/09
You can’t blame Clinton for “W”aste Product’s mistakes!!!!!!!! Ignoring our country for Iraq had its price and we’re paying it NOW!
Clinton ***** ….rolmfao
All Bills the Republican Senate put in front of him and threatened him with a veto override if he didn’t sign.
The Gramm/Leach/Bliley (all Republicans) bill is the one that deregulated loans and caused ALL these problems.
There are idiots in every crowd. Bush was top idiot in the republican crowd. Seems to me allot of his stupidity was almost democrat. It was hard to tell sometimes which one he was, decisions based entirely on putting money in his buddy’s pockets no matter what it did to our nations economy. Retards are in both democrat and republican party’s. That is why the democrats won, may as well vote one in the republican we had acted like a retarded democrat
RON PAUL IS THE MAN FOR THE JOB COME 2012! VOTE FOR HIM NOOBS AND READ HIS BOOK
Nice try, but the last two were bundled in the Omnibus bill…you know the one Bush should have signed before he left office. The republican congress stuck that Modernization Act..the Gramm, Leach Bliley act of 1999 that repealed the Glass-Segal act of 1933. Bush had every opportunity to change that…the republicans had every opportunity to change that…but they wanted to steal from the people of this country. The republicans are all thieves and liars. They whine about 787 billion for creating jobs…yet they allowed the dumbest president in the history of this nation to dump 7 trillion in the hands of his contractor friends. A moron that was dictator from October 2001 to January 19, 2009. THAT is the reason the republican lost…combined with the only thing McCain could do was crash planes…then Palin who is a extremist did not help McCain. Her constant attacks made the republicans look like a complete bunch of morons…just like her!
We are arguing over Politicians people and yes they all lie and make promises they cant keep to get elected…
yes and no. enough said there.
1. Only 6% of high risk (subprimes and the like) are covered by CRA. The CRA was not responsible for our financial mess.
Items 2-4 are bedrock principles of conservative and republican principles. To blame this on Clinton is ridiculous. It is like saying that the Democrats started the Iraq war. Although Clinton was definitely a conservatie Democrat, he signed most of these things so he could remain president and get what he wanted.
Deregulation and Free trade is what the Republican party is all about. That is what Reagan and the Bush’s ran on, what they rolled Clinton over on, and if Bush Jr. didn’t like any of it, he could have resinded any of it. He certainly didn’t have to run on promises of free trade and deregulation, which he did.
But Certainly Clinton’s weakness help damage the country, there is no doubt about it.
