Republicans will be changing their tunes, but quick! But heres what I really think. They already know. Everyone KNOWS. Global warming is a reality and only the bozos at home think otherwise because their party tells them to. But the party knows. Of COURSE the government know. and the companies have the tech. knowhow too. TODAY. (Did you catch the doc. "What Happened to the Electric Car?) But there's BILLIONS to still be made on our fossil fuels. They just can't waste that can they? They're just waiting until they can drain every dollar they can from their investments, THEN we can move on to cleaner energy. But only THEN. I mean, do you really think OPEC is going to throw up their hands and say "we're done"? Or do you think there's a Plan B?

EDIT: I take back the sole blame of Republicans (though they DO fight the hardest against reform), but ALL politicians are to blame. Its a trade game (lobbyists, favors, foreign policies, etc., ad nauseum) that will NOT change until it either runs out OR we demand it and vote accordingly. We complain about policy, but who really writes their government anymore? Who votes based on issues and not scandal or scare tactics. Who says 'wrong is wrong' regardless of party instead of pointing a finger with one hand while lifting the rug with the other anymore? Who remembers Country ABOVE Party anymore? I mean really, if your a republican, its ONLY a good idea if it comes from a republican and vice versa. Its a sick cycle and we have only ourselves to blame.

The same way it has handled all the other commodities crisis. Congress would hold hearings and pretend to care and attempt to do something about it, but the corporations who own our government would just continue to gouge us. Government should regulate any industry that provides products that are necessary for the welfare of it's people. In the preamble the function of the government is to provide for the welfare of its people. Capitalism is great, but unchecked Capitalism is just as evil as Communism, which is by the way different than Socialism.

You're assuming we make it to the next ten years. According to Ted Turner, we'll all be cannibals.

But seriously, I suspect the leaders will deal with it. If only for their own political survival. They'll find other ways, if only out of fear that we are about to revolt on them.

And if not, we'll revolt on them and install someone who will deal with the situations.

That, or it really is "the end of this system of things." In which case, God and the battle of Armageddon will deal with it. Or He doesn't exist and we all die and the d*mn dirty apes take over.

On a serious side note, Charlton Heston rest in peace.

The political environment will change, but that change will not be due to the price of food. And you fail to mention the de-valuing of the dollar as a reason for an increase in the price of food, if we have an economy left in ten years.

Food prices won't quadruple because of bulk grocery companies like Wal-mart and the like...

Our climate will change immensley. I hope to rely more on what I grow outside. Walk more and travel less. Eat less and use less water. The ultimately we will all turn to God more and rely on faith.
