Why Is Being Clever the Subject of Derision?
Why is intelligence, the pursuit of knowledge and other factors looked upon with such derisiveness? Why does our culture laugh at the Historian and the Scientist but praise the brainless Football star and Pop icon? Some people even go as far to say that these brainless idiots are their ‘role models’?
Is Andy Roddick a better role model to have than the likes of Lucretius, Aristotle, Archimides, Copernicus, Galileo and so on? Truly, is he?
We need to bring back intellectualism into our culture. The praise of the pursuit of pure knowledge.
In classical antiquity knowledge was considered a commodity, from which all could trade and learn. As Cicero said: “A Room without books is like a body without a soul.”
Anti Intellectualism is dangerous, very dangerous, it is this kind of thinking that led to the collapse of the Roman Empire.

Check out the Wikipedia entry on anti-intellectualism.
People want something simple and easy to follow or able to relate to. Basically people are lazy and do not want to strain themselves to much. They feel they expose their ***** ignorance in a subject, even if that really would not be true.
People want to have a light care-free environment where nothing is serious and everything is fun. Just look at the questions and answers in this Q&A. That is just human behavior for most people.
The intellect people are fewer in this world so they are looked upon as odd-balls. People don’t want a person with all A’s but some screwball that barely (if at all) passes, but is the life of the party.
No don’t think that all sports people are dumb or all smart people are nurds. We cannot put anyone into a sterotype and expect to have a rational concept of people. People are all different even within various classes, religions, standards, countries, or what-ever.
We just have to remember which group we are with and go with the flow. However, do not stay in an uncomfortable group for long. Seek out those that fit your idea of good common sense and intelligents. Seek out those that can add to your life and not subtract from it.
Sharing is a part of life, we share ideas and feelings to all, but we need to know where to get our answers of really important in-depth issues.
False intellect, does not cover a person’s own ignorance, as you have so aptly proven this point here, by using yourself as a shining example.
Thank you kindly for your self-denigration, to enlighten others.
