The foreign-exchange market is often referred to as the Slaughterhouse where novice traders go to get 'chopped up'. It is one of egos and money, where millions of dollars are won and lost every day and phones are routinely thrown across hectic trading desks. This palpable excitement has led to the explosion of the retail FX market, which has unfort[Read More]

Why is being clever the subject of derision?

Nikos S K asked:

Why is intelligence, the pursuit of knowledge and other factors looked upon with such derisiveness? Why does our culture laugh at the Historian and the Scientist but praise the brainless Football star and Pop icon? Some people even go as far to say that these brainless idiots are their ‘role models’?

Is Andy Roddick a better role model to have than the likes of Lucretius, Aristotle, Archimides, Copernicus, Galileo and so on? Truly, is he?

We need to bring back intellectualism into our culture. The praise of the pursuit of pure knowledge.

In classical antiquity knowledge was considered a commodity, from which all could trade and learn. As Cicero said: “A Room without books is like a body without a soul.”

Anti Intellectualism is dangerous, very dangerous, it is this kind of thinking that led to the collapse of the Roman Empire.

Whats_the_name_of_the_movie? asked:

It stars a Benicio del Toro -lookalike, and is set in Chicago. The main character works as a commodities trader or broker in the Chicago Board of Trade. The trailer features some fast cars in nighttime Chicago. I really liked the trailer, however must have missed the movie or it never came to my local cinema. I’m desperate to know what the movie is called so I can rent the DVD. The film is from 2002/03/04, I can’t remember exactly.

Short-term trading refers to the practice of buying and selling financial instruments within the same trading week or, at most, a few weeks. Short-term traders buy and sell stocks over a few days or weeks in the hope that their stocks will continue climbing in value for the time they own them, making for quick and, often, huge profits. Some of the [Read More]

Funding ROTH IRA using a trading account?

Alex S asked:

Hi,

As I begin trading futures in currencies using a LLC, I am curious to know if I can fund a Roth IRA from some of the profits. Can I do this in the form of a loan, marketing fee etc? If I make more than 160k AGI , as long as leave it in the company in the form of retained earnings can I still fund my IRA? Thanks
