A question asked by Johny: Market depth on just one side in futures markets?
If I have just ask order size and no bid roders – does it mean that i can end up with the asset – without being able to sell it?

for instance:

futures price:
bid: 1000
ask: 1002
bid size: 0
ask size: 1

thanks

Not sure what market you are referring to, or if it trades electronically or not (as most markets now do). In the example you gave, I would suggest checking with your broker’s order desk to determine the true bid price.

Why Do People Think Markets Need Regulation?

A question asked by bored: why do people think markets need regulation?
Only a fool would trust the baboons in Congress to manage the economy.

Even if you had regulation, how would you regulate the regulators? Who is to say they won’t be corrupt?

The best regulation is a free market with a commodity money.

A gold money system means no one controls the money.

Keynes spoke of ‘animal spirits’; although he obviously meant it in a different sense, in terms of being self-interested there is precious little that separates us from da beasts in da jungle.

A question asked by thatguy2007: Is nickel traded as a commodity on any exchange? or how does the price of nickel effect the markets?

Best answer:

Answer by freakboynv2000
I believe nickel is traded on the comex. I don’t know that nickel directly effects any markets but a rise in nickel would make it’s associated products more expensive to make.

I you are looking for information about futures market then I have little doubt that you will find this video especially useful.

This morning, the S&P 500 Index e-mini futures (ES U1) are trading higher by 13.75 points to 1178.25 per contract. This is a solid move in the futures market as the European markets are trading higher as well. Often when the futures are trading higher to start the day the European markets signal weakness and most rallies will fade after the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. This may not be the case today as the early rally has a better than average chance of holding up throughout the entire session. Traders should not take anything for granted in this environment as things can change on a dime.

One of the best videos I have come across on the subject of commodity markets.

For the latest Jim Rogers, go to JimRogersBlog.com – As China and the world grows, supply will get tighter, especially if no one has been adding productive capacity. No one has ever called you to tell you to invest in commodities. They always want you to invest in a mutual fund. Historically, commodities markets last on average 18 years. That means it should end somewhere between 2014 and 2022. Soybeans are 70% below its all time high. In the seventies, it never made it to the teens. Sugar used to be 66 cents, and now it is 9 cents. Look at the agricultural products. These are all well below their highs. It was a disaster for people who got wiped out. The tourist industry has been devastated. A frost in Florida can make a lot of people rich. A lot of people will also lose money. You’ve got to learn to think both ways. One way to invest in raw materials is to buy a fund. PIMCO is a viable option. There are 30000 stock mutual funds in the world.. At the same time, there are only 3 or 4 commodity funds. Eventually there will be thousands of commodity funds. That is when it will be time to sell out.

One of the many excellent videos I have discovered recently on the topic of commodity markets.

On July 30, 2010, Nick Schulz sat down with John H. Makin, AEI visiting scholar, to discuss deflation.
